Beyond the Kicks: The World of Fullclip

Australian Hardstyle and Rawstyle producer Fullclip is building a sound and vision of his own. We talked about his musical roots, the influences behind his productions, finding his own identity and what he has planned for the future.

Meet Fullclip
Hardstyle can come from many different influences. For Australian producer Fullclip, one of the most important ones can be found far outside the genre itself: Hip-Hop.

Today, his music combines the power and intensity of Rawstyle with strong rhythmic influences, dark atmospheres and a futuristic, technological dystopian identity. But his journey into Hardstyle started long before he ever produced his first track.

Fullclip was only 12 when tracks like Headhunterz' Dragonborn and Zatox' My Life first introduced him to the genre. At the time, he wasn't entirely sure what to make of it. That changed several years later when he experienced Hardstyle the way it was meant to be experienced: surrounded by thousands of people.

"When I turned 18 and went to my first Hardstyle rave, Knockout Circuz, it really changed my music palette for good."

From there, he began diving deeper into the music and eventually discovered Rawstyle as the side of Hardstyle that resonated with him most.

Then came Hard Bass 2019.
Seeing DJs perform in front of an entire stadium and experiencing how music could connect such a huge crowd became a defining moment.

"Seeing the DJs on such a large stage at Hard Bass and connecting a stadium of people was very inspiring to witness."

It was after that experience that producing Hardstyle stopped being just an idea and became something Fullclip wanted to pursue himself.

Building the Fullclip sound
Rather than leaving his previous musical influences behind, Fullclip brought them with him.

His strong connection to Hip-Hop became an important part of his identity as a producer. Rhythms and melodies from Hip-Hop often provide the initial spark for a new track before being transformed into something completely different.

"I like to find Hip-Hop tracks with strong rhythms or melodies to help establish the foundation of a new song."

Melodies have traditionally been his preferred starting point. He listens closely to rhythms and tries to recreate them on his keyboard, but not with the intention of simply copying what he hears. During that process, the original idea naturally evolves into something of his own.

"This process always gives me awesome results with melodies that are similar to the original but also unique to my own production."

More recently, however, Fullclip has deliberately started challenging his own workflow. Instead of always beginning with melodies, he's experimenting with building tracks from the drops and kicks first.

That willingness to experiment has also played an important role in something that took much longer to develop: his own sound.

For Fullclip, finding an identity that genuinely felt like his was one of the biggest challenges of becoming a producer.

"The biggest challenge has been finding my own unique sounds."

For a long time, he wondered whether that individual sound would ever arrive. Years of producing eventually taught him that forcing it wasn't the answer.

"I learnt that worrying about if I would ever find my own sound was something that I didn't need to do. Instead, learning to trust myself when practising, I would inevitably create brand-defining sounds."

And that's exactly what happened.

Today, Fullclip describes his musical identity through the combination of Hardstyle and his Hip-Hop background, surrounded by a world of futuristic technological dystopia. Dark rap influences, aggressive energy and cinematic ideas come together to create the foundation of the Fullclip project.

No rules in the studio
That identity doesn't come from following a rigid formula.
A typical studio day for Fullclip doesn't really exist.

"I like to see where the sessions take me, especially in a collaborative environment. The best sessions are ones that are not pressured or rushed."

And sometimes, that means accepting that creativity simply doesn't happen.

"Sometimes I could go a whole session without creating anything."

When deadlines or upcoming shows enter the equation, things change quickly. Then it's laptop open, task in mind and work until it's finished.

It's a balance between allowing ideas to develop naturally and knowing when it's time to get things done.

More than just heavy music
Ask Fullclip what people should feel when they hear one of his tracks and his answer is pretty clear:

"Empowered, found, complete, inspired... and wet. 😅"

We'll let him have that one.

But behind the humor is something that becomes clear throughout his story: Fullclip wants his music to create an experience.

And his plans for the future go beyond the tracks themselves.

"Expect high-energy songs with captivating stories, coming together with visuals representing the sound that will stand out from anything done before on a Hardstyle music video."

New music, ambitious visuals, livestreams, events and new mixes are all part of what he wants to build next.

Fullclip isn't interested in simply fitting into an existing Rawstyle formula. After years of searching for his own sound, he's building a world around it.

And we're excited to see where he takes it next.
